Wello’s World XI
Wello’s World XI Winner
After a month of sifting through all your entries, I’m delighted to announce the winner of Wello’s World XI competition to pick the side I would choose to represent the World in an interstellar test match.
We had hundreds of entries with all manner of different combinations. However, nobody got my team spot on so I gave the 8 finalists who came closest the chance to arrange my team in the batting order I chose for them with the player who they thought I would ask to captain the side.

Here’s the side I chose in batting order:
- Justin Langer
- Matthew Hayden
- Rahul Dravid
- Brian Lara
- Sachin Tendulkar
- Andy Flintoff
- Adam Gilchrist
- Shane Warne (captain)
- Shoaib Akthar
- Steve Harmison
- Glenn McGrath
Langer & Hayden have an astonishing record despite Hayden being out of form, he’s so intimidating. Dravid is my rock at 3 just edging out Kallis. Lara is the real genius and Tendulkar just has the edge on Ponting.
Freddie is the best all-rounder in the world, an ideal 4th seamer. Gilchrist is the best there has ever been in his position, the one player above all else I would have in my side for his ability to win games of cricket.
McGrath and Warne pick themselves, an awesome combination with over 1000 test wickets between them. I wanted some out and out pace so Shoaib has to play. The last bowler was incredibly tough but even though he’s been out of form I went for Harmison, at his best he’s the most difficult bowler to play in the world. He just gets the nod over Murali, Gillespie and Ntini.
There you go – a team to beat any planet, anywhere in the galaxy!
