Ealing CC Academy v St Benedict’s School

A windy and damp Wednesday saw Ealing CC gain another win in 2008 courtesy of a 4 wicket victory over St Benedict’s 1st XI in their 20-20 match. Right from the start, Ealing’s bowlers were accurate and an excellent slip catch by Anand Ashok removed the dangerous Adrian Lee for 0 in a dangerous spell by George Palmer.
Ajay Soni proved equally frugal and his spell of 3 for 1 in 2 overs was superb. The school’s batsmen struggled throughout and young Jemal Toussaint made an excellent debut for the older Academy side in taking 2 for 20 from his 4 overs. Avi Anand’s captaincy was mature as was his catching and the big leg spinning allrounder snaffled all 3 chances that came his way.
A lively pitch made sure Ealing Academy did not have things all their own way and their very own Tom Jewers, captaining the school side, knocked over both Anand and Ajay Soni in a lively spell. Chris Wakefield and David White steadied things in making 28 and 20 respectively but it took the calm head of Tahir Afridi to see the Academy home in 14 overs after a flurry of late wickets put the outcome of the match in doubt.
