Ealing CC Academy v St Paul’s School
Played at St Paul’s on Monday April 14th 2008
The annual fixture between the Academy and St Paul’s School saw Ealing invited to bat in a 40 over match that eventually became 35 overs due to persistent rain breaks. David White and Ajay Soni played nicely from the start though David benefited from a chance offered with his very first contact of bat on ball in 2008 when a simple offering to first slip was not be accepted.
Ajay drove the ball powerfully down the ground whilst David collected runs off his legs and the pair ran well together. When David was out caught at cover trying to hit over the top for 53, Ealing Captain Mylo Wilkin came in and played a fluent sensible knock which allowed Ealing Academy to close on 181 for 3 in 35 overs, thanks mainly to Ajay’s excellent 78.
St Paul’s never really got into the game due to some tight, disciplined bowling from Ealing which saw wickets for George Palmer, Junaid Malik and Academy stalwart Gagandeep Jauhar who took 3 for 22 with his whirling legspin. New recruit Abdurazzaq Ahmed braved the cold and warmed up his frostbitten fingers to collect 2 wickets for 3 runs and seal the match with his big turning right arm wristspin and Ealing Academy completed a comfortable victory by 61 runs.
