Interview with Matthew Read
Matthew attends Twyford Comprehensive school in Acton and is 13 years of age
Which cricketers do you admire most?
I admire Freddie Flintoff the most because I try to play like him and think he’s a really nice guy, good sport and great role model. I also admire Michael Vaughan because he is a really good leader and very modest.
How long have you been playing cricket?
I started playing 3 years ago when I was 10.
What cricket are you currently playing?
I am currently playing for Ealing CC Under 15’s and for the Ealing Academy. I also attend Wello’s indoor academy on Saturday afternoons and during the summer, I go to as many of his coaching courses as I can.
What type of cricketer are you ie: spin bowler, strokemaker etc.?
I’m an all-rounder and like to hit the ball hard. My bowling is seam up right arm over.
How long have you been attending Coaching Cricket Excellence courses run by Peter Wellings?
I first came to CCE’s courses in 2003 and have been attending them ever since.
Do you do individual tuition with Wello and if so how has it helped you?
I do have individual tuition with Wello and find that it helps me a lot. One to one coaching gives you the opportunity to ask any questions about cricket and your game. I also like that it is just you and the coach and think it’s better for spotting things which might be wrong with your game.
Describe the time you have on CCE’s holiday coaching courses.
I have so much fun on CCE’s courses whilst learning and gaining lots of experience. I have also made several hundreds during the games that we play.
What would you like to achieve in your cricket career?
I would love to play professional cricket and one day get the chance to play for England, hopefully with Freddie Flintoff.
